How can you tell it’s campaign season in Georgia? The mudslinging and partisan rhetoric are in full swing. Incumbent Republican Gov. Nathan Deal trumpets his record of moving Georgia to the No. 1-ranked “business friendly” state, according to a 2013 Site Selection magazine poll, while his Democratic challenger, state Sen. Jason Carter, promotes “an economy that works for the middle class.”
The energy level in the workshop room was buzzing right when I walked in. We were a room full of leaders who also know how to work as part of a team!
For me, the White House Summit on Working Families was priceless! I was able to visit our nation’s capital and sit in the presence of President Obama and our First Lady, as well as Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, as they talked about working family issues.

Join in the movement to “Ban the Box” and end employment discrimination for formerly incarcerated individuals! Meetings are held every first Wednesday of the month.
For many families in our community, a trip to the grocery store means hours of work. I work for $8.00 an hour, just above the federal minimum wage of $7.25. Folks like me have to work a half hour to pay for a gallon of milk. Filling up the gas tank takes six hours of work.

At the event, I was encouraged to hear from organizations like 9to5 that are working to improve the lives of working women and their families. I found it even more encouraging to hear from business leaders who are making changes in their own workplaces by providing family-flexible workplace policies.
