Position Description: 9to5 Georgia is seeking a detail-oriented Graduate Research Assistant to support our child care campaign team in investigating local revenue sources, conducting financial analysis, and performing cost-benefit analysis. As a GRA you will work closely with the child care organizer and contribute to the overall objectives of the project. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing evidence-based insights and recommendations to inform the development of a sustainable revenue strategy for children’s programs and services. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical research experience while contributing to a meaningful project. 

This position will be based within the 9to5 Georgia chapter. This position will be a mix between remote and in-person working hours. 

Research Assistant Roles & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Meet weekly with staff supervisor 

● Attend trainings with the 9to5 and partner organizations 

● Compiling research and data to support current policy priorities 

● Collaborate with 9to5 staff and partners to support the state Child and Youth Fiscal mapping project 

● Assist in conducting financial analyses to estimate the potential revenue that could be generated from different sources locally 

● Collaborate with stakeholders and research team to evaluate the potential costs and benefits associated with different revenue sources 

● Assist in designing clear, unbiased, culturally sensitive, and relevant survey questions for FFN survey and community poll on funding for children 

● Ensure proper data handling protocols are followed, including informed consent and confidentiality

● Use statistical software to analyze survey data and derive meaningful insights

● Help prepare reports, presentations, or visualizations that effectively communicate survey and research results 

Qualifications: 

● Currently enrolled as a graduate student 

● Commitment to social justice 

● Strong research and analytical skills 

● Experience in financial analysis, economic modeling, and/or cost-benefit analysis

● Familiarity with local government finances, tax structures, and revenue generation mechanisms.

● Deep understanding and commitment to racial and gender justice 

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

● Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical tools. 

● Must be able to operate independently in addition to working with a diverse team

● Available for 15-20 hours per week 

● Must have access to a phone, video conferencing capabilities, stable internet connection, Google Workspace, Zoom, and other software as the need arise 

● Knowledge of local policies governing revenue generation and ballot initiatives is a plus. 

This is a part-time contract (15 – 20 hour per week) position that will begin in July 2023 until December 1st, 2023 with the potential opportunity to extend the position based on organizational need. 

Compensation: 

$20 hourly wage, 1 hour of sick time is accrued for every 30 hours worked, and monthly phone and travel stipends.
