As a member of 9to5, I believe the next steps for Rhode Island should be to raise the minimum wage for tipped workers (currently only $2.89 per hour) and index the state minimum wage to inflation. Both of these provisions were on the table, but were stripped from the legislation passed in 2013.
Latonya Jordan had only been a 9to5 member for a week when she joined our annual 9to5 Lobby Day at the Capitol. This was her first, but will definitely not be her last time to speak up and speak out for the changes that working women need!
January 19 was MLK Day, the day our country comes together to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 9to5 members carry on his struggle for racial and economic justice by fighting to guarantee wages and workplace conditions that provide dignity and security to all workers.
